Overview
Vibration exists within all buildings due to sources such as mechanical equipment, elevators, people, and vehicles. While the level of vibration generated by these sources may not be discernable to the typical building occupant, when designing a facility which will house equipment that operates within precise measurement tolerances, the vibration can impact that equipment’s ability to operate. Therefore, to properly design for vibration levels within buildings, it is important to know the vibration requirements of the sensitive equipment. The vibration requirements can then be compared with measured or calculated vibration levels within the building to determine if mitigation will be necessary to allow optimum performance of the sensitive equipment.
